tim-spam Posted March 8, 2010 Report Posted March 8, 2010 Remove turbo, strip down vanes, clean and re-assemble. There are several posts describing exactly how to do this. Quote

tim-spam Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 Many people have tried turbo cleaner, but it only works in very few cases - but try it and see... Quote
zorgman Posted March 9, 2010 Report Posted March 9, 2010 thought the vanes are on the exhaust side so its burnt chemicals going into turbo trying to clean the carbon off the vanes, so redex is probs the same and much cheaper, always worth the try tho saves a lot of work and skin, but at end of day itll never do the sme job as stripping it off. do a check on the actuator make sure that it'll go thru the full stroke to check operation Quote

First thought was MAF and now reading up on this Turbo vanes. I switched her off and restarted and noticed that the red light in the door was flashing when going along but car seemed fine. Pulled over again and turned off and restarted and everything fine. Got her home and connected up vag.com but didn't find any faults (except an intermittant immobiliser fault on Module 1 Engine). Would this have any effect on the loss of power? Is there another module I should be checking for MAF or these Turbo vanes sticking? My A/C is also flashing but been talking about this on another thread - does anyone know though if the digital climate a/c only works at 10 degrees and above (I'm sure I read this somewhere) as I cleared the error code before and it didn't come back until today when the temp was 12 degrees. Any advice much appreciated as my old mechanic is back down my way this week and I might be able to get him to have a butchers. Cheers WJUK Quote
ncb Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Another way to clean the turbo is with a foaming oven cleaner like the mr muscle one. Idea is you take the downpipe off and squirt some in every couple of hours. Turning the turbo turbine round is helpfull too. So is koving the actuator up and down. I tried this but broke a stud off the turbo/downpipe mounting and so had to take the whole turbo anyway. Quote
